I carried a circular pattern from the book into the website. This pattern comes from Hilma af Klint’s “What Stands Behind the Flowers” (Helianthus, Common Sunflower), an abstract diagram she created to represent the hidden spiritual qualities she believed lay behind plants. For her, the sunflower symbolized that “love is the greatest of all.” I was drawn to both the meaning and the form, which reminded me of someone personal, and decided to build my project around this symbol. That is how Practice of Love began.
Love is not just a feeling; it requires clarity and practice.
My contribution
Practice of Love brings these ideas into a design experience. The publication takes the form of message cards that explain why and how it was designed. I wanted this project to invite people—whether in relationships, situationships, or simply curious—to pause, reflect, and consider love through design. It is about holding space for emotions and showing how design can make us think differently about love in the city.
